Tuesday morning was sunny and a nice day was promised by the weather man. The London-based human rights organization Amnesty International issued a report Monday saying the Salvadoran military, as well as police or paramilitary squads were carrying out “a systematic and widespread program of torture, disappearances and individual and mass killings of men, women and children.” A three-judge federal panel has ordered the Congressional reapportionment plan into effect in South Carolina which was passed by the house last month. It leaves metropolitan areas intack, except that it splits Berkeley County between the 1st and 6th districts. The 4th District has Greenville, Spartanburg and Union counties. C. 28782 Break-In Solved 4 Arrested Sheriff Boyce Carswell stated Monday afternoon that the break- in of the Walter Neal house on Mountain Range Road on the night of Dec. 25th had been solved and some of the merchandise recovered. Sheriff Carswell said that four persons had been arrested, that a warrant had been taken out for another and that several others would probably be arrested. The Neals had approximately $75,000 in merchandise stolen on Dec. 25th. Taken were a 1982 Cadilliac, 1981 Toyota pick-up truck, a gun collection valued at $10,000, silver valued at $20,000, jewlery and other items. Sheriff Carswell stated that the 1981 Toyota pick-up truck had been recovered as well as about $15,000 in silver. He said that Detective Allen Rickman and Probation Officer Walt Brand had returned from Eufaula, Ala. where the 1982 Cadiliac had been located in Walter F. George Lake. The car had been abandoned and driven into the water. Sheriff Carswell said that the Barbour County Sheriff’s Dept, will pull the car out and check to see what’s in the trunk of the automobile. Arrested were: Gary Pack, 20, of Rt. 1, Mill Spring, Danny Hall 20 of Tryon, Alisa Hensley, 23, of Columbus, who have all been charged with Burglary 2nd degree.
